TECH Biz EXPO 2016
- TECH Biz EXPO 2016 was held at Fukiage Hall from Wednesday to Friday, November 16 to 18, 2016. At the event we promoted RoboCup 2017 Nagoya, Japan.
- Overall the three-day event drew 17,891 visitors, while the RoboCup booth attracted 595 people, comprising mainly company-related persons. Thank you all very much.
Science Agora 2016
- Science Agora 2016 was held from Thursday to Sunday, November 3 to 6, 2016, at the main venue, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan). In cooperation with the Universal Future Society Promotion Council, whose steering committee is the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, we promoted RoboCup 2017 Nagoya, Japan (Nov. 4 to 6).
- The booth where we made the promotion attracted approximately 300 visitors many of whom are families.

Messe Nagoya 2016
- Messe Nagoya 2016 was held at Nagoya International Exhibition Hall (Portmesse Nagoya) from Wednesday to Saturday, October 26 to 29, 2016. We promoted RoboCup 2017 Nagoya, Japan, at the booth set up by Nagoya City.
Japan Robot Week 2016
- Japan Robot Week 2016 was held in East Hall 3 at Tokyo Big Sight from Wednesday to Friday, October 19 to 21, 2016. In cooperation with the Universal Future Society Promotion Council, whose steering committee is the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, we promoted RoboCup 2017 Nagoya.
- The three-day event drew approximately 30,000 visitors, while the booth where we made the promotion attracted 435 visitors. Thank you very much.
- In our workshop held on the 21st, Co-chair Hiroyuki Okada of the RoboCup 2017 Nagoya Executive Working Committee (Professor at Tamagawa University) spoke about the attractive features of RoboCup 2017 Nagoya, Japan.
62nd Nagoya Festival
- The 62nd Nagoya Festival was held on Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16, 2016, where the RoboCup 2017 Nagoya Executive Working Committee had set up a booth.
- At the booth, we exhibited the biped robot NAO, and soccer robots, which chase after a ball. Many visitors to the booth were amazed by the adorable NAO and the soccer robots.
Robot Symposium 2016 Nagoya to Be Held
From Wednesday, November 16 to Friday, November 18, 2016, Robot Symposium 2016 Nagoya will be held at the Nagoya Trade & Industry Center, for the purpose of generating and promoting next-generation industries that will serve as the cornerstone of local communities.
In the symposium (lecture) on Wednesday, November 16, Prof. Hitoshi Matsubara of Future University of Hakodate, who also serves as an advisor to the Organizing Committee of RoboCup 2017 Nagoya, will deliver a special lecture. In addition, the Organizing Committee of RoboCup 2017 Nagoya will set up a booth at TECH Biz EXPO 2016, which is being held at the same time.

The 2016 Nagoya Environment Day and the Owari-Nagoya Craftsmanship Exhibition
- We promoted RoboCup 2017 Nagoya, Japan at an event to celebrate the 2016 Nagoya Environment Day (held on September 17, 2016) and at the 33rd Owari-Nagoya Craftsmanship Exhibition (held from September 16 to 18).

At both events, to promote RoboCup 2017 Nagoya, Japan, we displayed soccer robots and distributed brochures to visitors.
A total of 445 people visited our booth at the 2016 Nagoya Environment Day event, while 100 people did so at the Owari-Nagoya Craftsmanship Exhibition. Thank you very much!

The 34th Annual Conference of the Robotics Society of Japan
- We set up a booth at the 34th Annual Conference of the Robotics Society of Japan, held from Wednesday, September 7 to Friday, September 9, 2016.
- Consisting of displays of equipment, books, and catalogs, as well as special sessions, open forums, a special lecture, and public talks, this year’s conference attracted more than 1,100 participants, with 36 organizations setting up booths.
- Our display booth attracted 332 visitors over the three days – mainly researchers and students studying robots, from all around Japan. Thank you very much!
Courtesy call on Mayor Kawamura
- Two students of Ohgidai Junior High School in Nagoya City who won individual Team third place in the RoboCup Junior Rescue Line Primary category at RoboCup 2016 Germany—Tomoki Ichikawa and Seiwa Ito—made a courtesy call on Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura to report the result. The two also received Best Presentation awards. (Photo 1)

Night Zoo & Garden event held at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens
- We participated in a Night Zoo & Garden event on Aug. 11 (Thu.) and Aug. 12 (Fri.), 2016 at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, which advertised to visitors that RoboCup was coming to the zoo.
- Nagoya Castle ladies and a “cat” shop chief welcomed customers. Children expressed their great pleasure over being hugged by the “cat” shop chief. (Photo 5, Photo 6, Photo 7, Photo 8)
- For our event, “RoboCup is coming to Higashiyama,” we asked for cooperation from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Artificial Intelligence, established by the School of Engineering of Chukyo University. Despite their tight schedule just before the “Bon” summer holiday season, three laboratories belonging to the institute offered to exhibit their robots as part of their efforts to support us. We would like to express our gratitude for their cooperation.

Nagoya Science Hiroba
- We set up a booth at a Nagoya Science Hiroba event, held at the Nagoya Science Park on Aug. 6 (Sat.), 2016. (Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3, Photo 4)
- Our booth displayed a rescue robot tasked with line tracing, with the backing of a laboratory led by the Aichi Institute of Technology’s Katsunori Mizuno.
- Children were surprised to see soccer robots moving while following the ball. (Photo 5, Photo 6)
- NAO, a legged robot, talks about RoboCup 2017 Nagoya, which will be held in the Japanese city in July next year. (Photo 7)
- Many people visited our booth, with children enjoying exchanges with NAO while showing their curiosity. (Photo 8)
RoboCup 2016 Germany
- RoboCup Germany (Leipzig) was held at Leipzig Messe for seven days from June 28 (Tue.) to July 4 (Mon.), 2016.
- RoboCup Germany comprised setup over two days (from June 28 to June 2), four days of competition (from June 30 to July 3) and a one day symposium (July 4).
- The competition started on June 30. The RoboCup Soccer event was thrilling and eventful while we were able to monitor RoboCup Rescue through a large-size screen set up at the event halls.
- The competitions and exhibitions for RoboCup Germany were held on an exhibition ground as large as 40,000 m2, including the second and fourth halls of Leipzig Messe. (Photo 1)
- On July 3, the final day of RoboCup Germany, final matches were held for various competitive events. The visitors were excited to watch these competitions. They cheered for their favorite teams as the games were too close to be concluded within the set time and some of them went into overtime. (Photo 2)
- A total of 3,500 people from 45 countries gathered in Leipzig to participate in the competitive events of RoboCup Germany. Major competitive events included RoboCup Soccer (Humanoid, Standard Platform, Middle Size, Small Size, Simulation 2D, Simulation 3D), RoboCup Rescue (Rescue Robot, Rescue Simulation), Rogistics, RoboCup@Work, RoboCup@Home, and RoboCupJunior (Soccer, Rescue, On Stage and CoSpace). - We were able to watch children from all over the world participate in RoboCupJunior events seriously, energetically and with much excitement. (Photo 9, Photo 10)
- An award ceremony was held to celebrate the winner of each competition. Among the awardees were Japanese teams. (Photo 11, Photo 12)
- The organizing committee of RoboCup Germany handed over the RoboCup flag to the organizing committee of RoboCup Nagoya at the closing ceremony, concluding the one-week event in Leipzig. The next RoboCup will be held in Nagoya, Japan, in 2017. (Photo 13)
19th International Welfare and Health Industry Exhibition “Welfare 2016”
- The 19th International Welfare and Health Industry Exhibition “Welfare 2016” was held for three days from June 2 (Thu.) to 4 (Sat.), 2016 at Port Messe Nagoya.
- Welfare 2016 featured 394 exhibition booths run by a total of 160 companies and organizations. The three-day event attracted 73,881 visitors.
- After the opening ceremony on June 2, Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura visited our booth and shook hands with NAO (robot). (Photo 2)
