Karakuri (Mechanical) Doll Demonstration

Outline: It is said that robots have their origin in karakuri (mechanical) dolls, which were created in Japan about 400 years ago. The dolls are wooden entertainment and home-use robots (automatic dolls), with weights and springs serving as their energy sources. While their actions are controlled by cams and balance wheels, the dolls are operated by gear wheels and springs. At the venue, you can enjoy the skilful performance by typical types of karakuri dolls, namely: a tea-serving doll, a bow-drawing doll, and a writing doll.
